What to choose

The gastro pub food scene is spreading its wings and arriving in all different suburbs. One of the latest to attract visitors and locals is fast becoming a favourite: the Beresfield Tavern Bistro.

At the bistro, the Aussie pub scene has been embraced with great value daily specials such as the chicken schnitzel as well as the normal pub fare.

Monday is burger night ($12). Its the luck of the draw to see what burger the night's special will bring but I loved the Mexican burger most of all. Served with salad and chips, its real value for money. Tuesday night is the great Schnitty night ($8). Choose toppers such as Mexican, honey mustard, seafood in creamy garlic sauce, garlic cream sauce and an array of gravy choices such as dianne, mushroom, beef or a hot pepper cream.

Thursday nights are another great value favourite - the steak night ($15 with a free beer, wine or soft drink). Tender steaks cooked to your liking, again, with an array of toppers if you wish. Sunday also brings a beautiful roast - lamb, beef or pork ($10).

If you feel like just drinking your weight in beer and only want a snack - opt for the shared platter. Finger licking wings or ribs with chips or wedges, onion rings, salt and pepper squid and garlic bread. Great value at $10 for a small platter or $20 for a large.

Although so many tempting choices are available, one of the favourites is the lamb cutlets. Found on most pub menus, the bistro offers a different flavour in the chasseur sauce. Crispy coated tender lamb chops served with your choice of mash and veg or chips/veg or chips and salad. A winner.

The Beresfield Tavern Bistro caters for families, couples and groups. Under 12s are offered cheeseburgers, fish and chips, chicken breast with mash and veg, and spaghetti bolognese to name a few. All meals are served in generous portions with a large menu to suit all taste buds.

It is understandable why so many call this their local.

Beresfield Tavern is located at 195 Anderson Drive, Beresfield.

The height of enjoyable pub grub!

Tucked in behind the New England Highway at Beresfield is a little gem called the Beresfield Tavern. Previously known as the Bacchus Wine Bar, this newly renovated and extended tavern has all that a good pub stands for. A great atmosphere and plenty of locals that can tell you a yarn or two about the location.

Within the tavern is the Beresfield Tavern Bistro. What an experience! We have taken this small bistro to a new level by giving what our patrons want. Everything from steaks and ribs to old favourites such as lamb cutlets or lambs fry and bacon.

My choice today was a tender tbone steak cooked medium with a garlic prawn creamy sauce. Extra sauce was the request. Served on creamy mash with a honey mustard dressed salad, this meal was extremely enjoyable.

Beresfield Tavern has many different meals to choose from and specials on most nights of the week. Dietary needs are well catered for. One delicious example is the gluten free lasagna which had so much flavour you wouldn't know it was gluten free.

The Tavern also offers a drinks menu if you wish to compliment your meal with beautiful wines or other beverages.

This is a great little tavern with huge character and a great atmosphere. The characteristics are high, meal service is great and the hearty meals are great quality. The Wednesday night special is succulent ribs with marinated wings. A must try.

If you are after one of the old classics, try the tender lambs fry and bacon. I'm told this is one of the most favourable items on the menu.

The downside to my experience - leaving!

Beresfield Tavern and Bistro are located at 195 Anderson Drive, Beresfield near the Newcastle Crematorium. A recommended visit.
