Hi, I'm Kathryn Herbert (but please call me Kath), and I'm a chef and a foodaholic!
I am a mother to a beautiful daughter, Brooke and grew up living my younger years in beautiful Nelson Bay and then in Newcastle, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia. Newcastle is located at the gateway of the magnificent Hunter Valley, well known for its vineyards, long weekend visits, concerts and great food.
Raised by a mother who was a phenomenal cook, I have always had an interest in anything to do with food. I am currently studying for my Masters of Gastronomic Tourism with Southern Cross University and Le Cordon Bleu - a great honour and a very tasty journey!
Although a major part of my life has involved catering for many types of functions - weddings, birthdays, wakes and engagement parties - I waited until I was financially stable and mature to undertake official training to become a chef. One of the most fantastic experiences of my life. This has allowed me to grow into the chef and cook I am today - a little profession here and a little home cooking there. A great mix.
I love to cook and was drawn to the volunteer position at the Soul Cafe in Newcastle, catering over 800 hot meals every week for the homeless and disadvantaged. This is a very enjoyable part of my life and I am committed to giving back to the community.
Another passion is the children of Africa. Through Compassion Australia, I sponsor four children in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda. For a small monthly donation, I am able to make a huge difference to these children's lives and wellbeing.
