The old adage, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” could not be more precise when speaking of the Sunnyside Tavern.
To an outsider, this refurbished ‘friendly-local’ would be considered an odd place to find a thriving restaurant. A spacious front bar gives that old pub vibe whilst the bright modern dining areas feel cosy, welcoming and comfortable. The outdoor area linked to the dining room makes this an excellent location for large parties and celebratory events.
Head chef Ali Smith has exceeded expectations with her mouth-watering menu. No fewer than 24 main meals make up this generous choice of tastings including pub favourites; schnitzels, beer battered fish and steaks, as well as mouth-watering Captain Morgan barbeque spare ribs and confit duck. Good honest tasty food and good service make it tempting to return to taste the next offered on the menu. The food has been consistently delicious on every visit.
Smith’s attention to good service is reflected in the generous servings offered.
Today’s lunch special is a house crumbed chicken schnitzel with prawn topper. A mustard garlic cream sauce packs full flavour, accompanied by creamy mash and a salad complete with feta crumb. This is a perfect match and just the right portion size.
This gastro pub experience caters for parties, couples and large groups. Families are also welcome with under 12s offered a free paddle pop.
Having enjoyed my experience at the Sunnyside, my only wish was that this hidden gem was closer to my residence so I could call this my local.
